Translation: Kû Kahakalau

I go to the river, and there I see the shrimp
There in Hâlawa Valley, on beautiful Moloka`i

The shrimp called `Ôpae in the running stream
The shrimp called `Ôpae in the deep sea

I am looking for you down by the seashore
But it is in the river that you are finally found

Here we are eating shrimp and drinking kava
How plump and juicy indeed are the shrimp of Hâlawa

We enjoy the young coconut meat from Hâlawa
It’s truly delicious together with the water mixed with kava

Where are you my sweetheart, how I long to kiss you
And drink kava until you return to me

Let the story be told about us eating shrimp together
How plump and juicy indeed are the shrimp of Hâlawa
